Rainy Day on February

Together with friends, we decided to explore the secrets of HK Sun Plaza and the paluto area across it....

Our findings were:

1. Cheap paluto in Ocean 88 restaurant has a good ambience, with opportunities to bring big groups for private videoke parties.

2. Lots of pirated DVDs exist in the area, but like in Metrowalk, they don't still have the complete episode of Grey's Anatomy.

3. Dogs and pets on sale are not as cheap as a bargain (as you think they are). My tito who knows lots of vets and breeders offer better rates.

4. There is a great PX Store inside the complex surrounded by paluto shops. We got good buys such as imported corned beef and other canned goods. Perfume selection is also extensive. If I just had not been to TJ Maxx in the States recently (I still have stocks of perfume at home), I would have hoarded the perfume boxes there.

5. There is a Hooters Club at HK Plaza . But it's not like the Hooters in the States. That one in Macapagal looked really sleazy....

6. There is a huge Balikbayan Factory Store in HK Plaza which really sells a good variety, not to mention, really cheap stuff. They even have Regalong Pambahay and Egg Items (if my memory serves me right) which on the day we came, was on a special sale. Their items there are better than the clearing-out sale items offered by the same retailers in Megamall. The sale items come at par with the rates I got from the Celebrity Bazaar of ABS-CBN at the World Trade Center last December.

7. It was scary to cross the Macapagal road from the paluto area (where Claire dela Fuente's resto is) to the HK Sun Plaza. There was a pedestrian lane at one side of the road but the other road did not have any. It was a hilarious experience for adult women to play patintero with fast vans and six-wheeler trucks.

8. It rains hard even on a sunny February day. The Rivulet Bar and Restaurant was not as spectacular as we expected it to be. But the food was really, really good, not to mention, inexpensive.

Conclusions:

1. We will go back to Rivulet if we were in the area and if we wanted tasty, filling-food minus the price tag. But we can't bring sosy friends here. But this would be a hit to cowboy friends and barkada. This is not a coat and tie place. Forget romantic when you go here.

2. You can get your pants wet even on a sunny February day.

Itsounds usual, but their sauteed kangkong is really garlic-y and good... Their sirloin/tenderloin tips was also good cooked bistek style... The usual Pinoy favorite -sinigang, passed our taste too.

The place did not fare well as expected. Surprisingly, food was good and cheap.
